Aalborg Akvavit

aalborgFeaturing in our March subscribers kit; Danish Aalborg Taffel Akvavit. The Danes have given it the nickname ‘Red Aalborg’ and it has been probably the most popular brand since its launch in 1846, by Isidor Henius – the man who brought the Danish snaps production up to a level of quality that we know today.

Aalborg Taffel Akvavit is typical of a clear, Danish Akvavit. It has a distinct taste of caraway seeds and beautiful subtle aftertaste of orange. It was heralded as “Best Aquavit in the World” at the 2002 International Wine and Spirit Competition and a 2015 Gold Medal Winner.

Tasting Notes

Clean and pronounced on the nose with an intense caraway character. Silky-smooth, flavoursome and slightly spicy.

Food Pairing

Aquavit is made to pair with the traditional Scandinavian winter diet of pungent fish, sharp cheeses and heavy meat dishes. Traditionally Aquavit is served with marinated herring.

You can check out the full range of Aalborg on their site, or taste it for yourself in our March subscribers’ kit.
